The Beginning
They are the dream of custom home building, home renovations and design. President and Project Manager Les Stevenson and Interior Designer Liz Garay-Stevenson are the backbone of innovative Stevenson Design Works located in Surrey, BC.
In 1990, Stevenson Design Works was founded to apply the extensive construction knowledge and experience of Les Stevenson to the new home and renovation design business. Over time, the company changed and adapted to new market opportunities. Utilizing the skills and experience of the principles, Les Stevenson and Liz Garay-Stevenson, to develop into a single source design/build construction company.
For many years, the source for quality custom home design was architects. The only other source was home designers, adapting existing plans. These custom services were costly. Stevenson Design Works changed all that. Using the benefits of CAD, Les Stevenson began providing custom home design at little more than the cost of stock plans. Liz Garay-Stevenson then applied her natural interior design skills to the homes of clients Les has designed. It was not long before Stevenson Design Works began utilizing Les' knowledge and experience as a new home and renovation contractor. The concept of design/build was launched.
Service & Experience
Stevenson Design Works has evolved dramatically from its garage-based beginning twelve years ago. Les, whose skills lie in collating talented people and organizing projects, intermeshes more than 35 years of construction experience with Liz's design and coordinating talents. Window covering, furniture, carpeting and ceramic tile also fulfill extra levels of service for their clients.
Award winning Interior Designer, Liz Garay-Stevenson concentrates her past sales experience with event marketing. Her efforts are pivotal in casting the company to the forefront of the custom building industry. She has had numerous articles written about the company’s projects in a variety of print publication and has been interviewed on both radio and television. For past several years, she has been a local celebrity at the annual BC Place Home and Garden Shows. Aside from winning the "Best Booth" award at the show four times, Liz also conducts popular home decorating workshops to review crowds with shows such as "Instant Decorating", "Home for the Holidaze" and "Cheap Chic Decorating".
In the Community
Stevenson Design Works is committed to supporting charities and community projects which benefit from their experience. In 1997, the company provided interior design services for the "Every Woman's Dream Home" in Richmond with proceeds going to support Breast Cancer Research. Another project, The Playhouse Junction, was on view at 1998 BC Place Spring Home and Garden Show.
A number of prominent building contractors participated in the building of the miniature playhouses, which were raffled off for the BC Children's Hospital raising almost $40,000.00. In 1999, Stevenson Design Works donated design and drafting skills to the "South Fraser Child Development Center Playground" project. In 2001, the company provided design services for the “Rankin House” project in Surrey, which benefited the CKNW Orphans Fund with over $50,000.00
The goal for the future at Stevenson Design Works is to continue with positive growth, in concert with their mission statement. The opening of a second Location North Vancouver is consistent with this philosophy. The addition of several key staff members will enable Stevenson Design Works to continue to ensure consistent high level of customer service.
